"I like its light weight and the HEPA cleaning filter. My daughter has asthma, so it's important to me." *
Naomi C., Pennsylvania,
FANTOM® FURY®
vacuum owner

The Certified HEPA Air Filter** on every FANTOM® vacuum traps most dust, dirt and other allergens.

Every residential FANTOM model has a Certified HEPA Absolute Air Filter on its exhaust -- the same type of air filter used in hospital operating rooms.

HEPA means High Efficiency Particulate Air. The HEPA filter was developed during World War II by the Atomic Energy Commission to remove radioactive dust from plant exhausts. For a filter to be certified HEPA, it must retain 99.97% of all particles from the air which flows through it, down to 0.3 microns in size. (One micron equals one millionth of a meter. Particles less than 10 microns in size are not visible to the human eye.)

This means that the HEPA filter traps bacteria, pollen, plant-spores, molds, yeast cells, dust, and other lung-damaging particles down to 0.3 microns in size.

Here's a chart comparing the sizes of some common air contaminants:
Human hair 70 - 100 microns
Pollen 20 - 50 microns
Plant spores 20 - 40 microns
Mold 2 - 20 microns
Bacteria 0.35 - 10 microns
Lung damaging particles 0.50 - 9 microns
Each Certified HEPA Air Filter is made of high-strength, 100% glass microfiber media, manufactured to rigid specifications. Each filter is independently tested and certified for efficiency. (* Individual results may vary.)
** FANTOM HEPA Filter is certified as individually tested for a minimum efficiency of 99.97% on 0.3 micron thermally generated DOP particles in accordance with the MIL-STD 282 Test Procedure, at the 35 cubic feet per minute air flow rate. This test insures the compliance of each FANTOM HEPA Filter with the Type A Filter performance level requirements of the IES-RP-CC-001.3 Recommended Practice for HEPA and ULPA Filters.
